The Children's Inauguration Song (2009)
The 2009 Inaugural Planning Committee conducted a
contest to pick a song written by a child to commemorate the
inauguration of the new president. The winning entry was
written by Maggie Dill, a student at
Harry Dexter White School in People's Park, Maryland. (Maggie
later claimed that the song was written as "sarcasm," but officials
of the Inaugural Planning Committee investigated the matter and
found no trace of sarcasm in the song.)
Deus ex Machina (You are 'The One'!)
[To the tune of "How Great Thou Art"]
Demosthenes and Lincoln aren't your equals.
Compared to you, Ben Franklin's second rate.
No matter how flawless you think that you are,
The fact is you're a googol times more great.
And when you speak, my heart begins to thump.
You are 'The One'!
You are 'The One'!
I crave your gaze. I long for your fist-bump.
You are 'The One'!
You are 'The One'!
You are so smart, you can control the weather.
Infallible you are, in all you say.
I sing to thee: the purest leader ever --
At least among those not born Christmas Day.
On what you pledge, you never will renege.
You are 'The One'!
You are 'The One'!
Oh what a thrill! It runs right up my leg!
You are 'The One'!
You... are... 'The... Oooooone'!
